Large folded portrait of Emanuele Filiberto (tipped-in) finely etched by Jan Sadeler (Brussels, 1550-Venice, 1600), with the effigy of the Duke of Savoy inside an oval surrounded by an architectural border with allegorical characters and animals, folded twice and reproduced on antique paper on the frontispiece. Woodcut headpieces, drop caps and typographic friezes. Text within a double typographic fillet.
Rare first edition (the second was printed in Milan in 1602), of this important sixteenth-century biography of Emanuele Filiberto of Savoy that contains information on his political-military actions, his possessions and their structure in the second half of the sixteenth century, on the Shroud of Turin, etc.
The Milanese patrician Tonso (Milan, 1528-1601) had personally met Emanuele Filiberto during his diplomatic trip to Turin on behalf of the governor of Milan and wanted to honour his memory with this biography, which earned him the title of court counsellor and an annual pension of 500 scudi by Emanuele Filiberto's son, Carlo Emanuele I. G. Tonso (1528-1601), was a state councillor of Carlo Emanuele I in Turin. In addition to this important life of Emanuele Filiberto, Duke of Savoy from 1553 to 1580 and winner over the French in San Quintino in 1557, he wrote a biography of Alfonso d'Avalos, Marquis of Vasto.

The author was a writer and politician, great scholar of his time, born in Milan in 1528 and deceased in 1601. First edition of a significant work for Piedmontese publishing of the 1500s. Uncommon.
Domenico Tarino was a publisher active in Turin and Asti. In Turin he made use of the printing shops of the heirs of Niccolò Bevilacqua, Antonio Bianchi, Pantaleone Goffi and Lorenzo Vallino, in Asti of that of Virgilio Giangrandi.
