Description
Napoleon Bonaparte / Besnard - Scarce Napoleonic poster with freemason emblems - 1815
Brocante et ephemera, Franc-maçonnerie, Histoire militaire, Livres illustrés, Militaria, Objets souvenirs - Quantité : 1 - Ephemera

Scarce Napoleonic poster printed on laid paper and intended to be displayed on the door of the owner's room during military campaigns (or masonic meetings?).

This poster has been especially printed for the use of Mr Vienot, French lieutenant of gendarmerie in the Napoleonic army.
His name and grade is framed with decorative woodcuts and illustrated with two superb engravings signed Besnard : a crowned eagle with lightning bolts, olive branch and palm on the top and, at the bottom, a curious masonic emblem with compass, square, two columns, beehive and mason's trowel.

According to Henri Beraldi, J. Bernard was a copper-plate engraver who worked essentially on official documents for the French Empire. (Beraldi, Graveurs du XIXe siècle, 62).

Circa 1808/1815. Reverse is blank.

Folds, very light stain, all defects are minor, good to very good condition. Much probably unique.
