Westerwald rare salt glaze pottery.
This cobalt blue Historicism Westerwald vase with lid and mythological images, has a rare design.
The centrepiece is decorated with two putti sitting on a unicorn.
On the back an incubus is depicted and is further decorated with the typical Wasterwald motifs such as leaf and heart shapes.
The vase is in a very good condition, given its age.
The lip edge has a very small chip and the man’s cap on the lid has not been visibly restored.
The vase is dated between 1870 and 1890.
The vase was made in Germany and comes from Westerwald, a low mountain range in the German states of Rhineland-Palatinate, North Rhine-Westphalia and Hesse.
