Very rare vase of Val Saint Lambert, finished with a solid silver (.800/000) ring from Wolfers. Beautiful symbiosis between 2 Belgian top quality manufactures.
The model refers to the catalogue of 1908, the absolute top of Val Saint Lambert, when the grinding workshops were under the reign of Hubert Fouarge.
The vase is in perfect condition, but it does show a stain on the inside at the bottom.
Since 1812, the name Wolfers has appealed to the imagination. It is one of the oldest and most prestigious goldsmiths and jewellers houses in Europe, with roots going back to the 17th century.
Driven by successive generations of passionate craftsmen and artists, the house stood the test of time. Today, Wolfers is one of the most exclusive jewellers in the world. It is easily mentioned together with houses such as Fabergé. Wolfers is a court supplier of Belgium and designed the Royal tiara and the queen's wedding rings.
Fouarge is associated with the most exclusive pieces by Val Saint Lambert, first and foremost because he worked there in the absolute top period. It was the top period in terms of sales and expansion, but even more due to the fact that the quality reached its peak during the period. The quality of what Val produced in those days has never been equalled. Fouarge was ‘chef de tailleries’ (cutting studios) as of 1893. Under his watch and with his designs, Val Saint Lambert experienced its top. This vase was made ca. 1906-1921. The piece is doubled, cut and finished with filigree (serrated top edge). Filigree was only used for the most exclusive pieces, proving the pristine quality of this piece. For collectors: this concerns the largest version of the model. It is 20 cm tall.
Today, Val-Saint-Lambert has a presence in more than forty countries, from the USA to Saudi Arabia, from Spain to Japan. It has become the business card of Walloon. The government took a stake in the company in the 1980s due the impending bankruptcy of the company. A Val Saint Lambert piece, famous for its marvellous double-coloured cut crystal, is a sought-after collector’s item or an expensive business gift, also for princes and diplomats. The company for instance supplied the glass seats (amongst others, because of the ‘frigidity’ of the material) for the World Exhibition in Sevilla. The offering has been broadened and modernised, though the manufacturing of the unique pieces is still artisanal.
It will be adequately packaged and shipped with insurance in fitting (possibly double) packaging.
