A well-proportioned Mandalay Buddha carved from wood, finished with gold leaf and glass jewellery in white, green and red colours as well as mirror glass and inlaid eyes.
Height 62 cm, weight 10.6 kg
The condition of this Buddha is good considering its age. Some age-related wear here and there. In some sports gold paint has unfortunately been used to restore wear and tear in the original layer of gold leaf, once again a pity, but this restoration does not detract from the item as a whole.
We have included an extensive series of photos to provide a good impression.
The statue has the Mandalay style and shows the Buddha sitting in vajrasana, with his right hand pointing towards the earth in the bhumisparsa mudra position. It is probably the most characteristic form of religious sculpture in Burma. The pose, known as "calling the earth to witness," represents the moment when the Buddha is in meditation,
sat under the bodhi tree during the evening before its enlightening.
