A rare medieval cross in cast and hammered copper with partial gilding. The beams of the cross have a stylized tree trunk design on both sides. The four extremities are decorated with stylized faces with noses or beaks and eyes. The center of the cross is in the shape of a lozenge and is decorated with nine tiny stars. The shape of this small cross reminds us of the typical larger processional crosses made in Limoges or the North of Spain. The suspension loop has been added at a later date.
Southern France or Northern Spain. 1st half of the 14th century.
Dimensions: H (without suspension loop) 7.3cm ; W 5.2cm ; weight 10.15 grams.
