Suède - m/1815 - Mousquet - Percussions - Mousquet - 19 mm

Swedish model 1815 (flintlock) infantry musket converted to percussion probably around 1849. All original brass parts and fully stocked in walnut. The gun is mechanically very sound, with a good mainspring and appears to have been well looked after. The military grade percussion conversion is of a very high standard and unusually follows the nipple and drum technique; rather than piercing the top of the barrel to fix the nipple (a common procedure in Sweden around this time). The barrel is full length and at 105.2 cm it is at least 50 mm longer than many of the infantry muskets produced around this time (e.g. the British India pattern and French M1) The outside of the lock is marked with a crown over L.T and what appears to be the initials RB. The inside is marked with the initials BG. In addition, there is a lightly stamped 9 followed by 59 which represents the percussion conversion number and is found on several other surfaces. The underside of the side-plate has an IG cartouche. The butt-plate tang is marked 26 over 2 over 52 over 59. The first 3 lines probably represent the battalion, division etc., where the gun was placed, whilst the lower number (59) represents the percussion conversion number. The gun also has a bayonet of the type for this musket, but it is a little loose and thus probably not original to the gun. Will only ship to mainland destinations.
