Stout is a type of beer characterized by a dark brown to black colour and a slightly burning, bitter taste through the use of roasted or toasted malt. There are both high-fermented and low-fermented variants.
Pale ale is an ale, brewed with predominantly pale malt.
The term pale ale was first used in 1703 for ales brewed with roasted malt, dried with cokes. Roasting of malt by use of coal has been done since 1642, but only later the name of the beer was conceived.
