A beautiful and rare antique lidded chocolate cup, made in Bruxelles in the late Empire, Restoration period, ca. 1820. A beautiful piece with an elegant shape, note how finely the handles are connected by the line running along the lower edge. Hand-painted with fine golden decoration of leaves. These chocolate cups were larger than the coffee or teacups of the period, and as chocolate was an expensive luxury item they were only available to the wealthiest.
Unmarked but very fine porcelain.
Total heigth: 16,5 cm
The cup: 12 cm wide, 9 cm deep
The saucer: 16,3 cm diameter
Overall good condition with wear to the gilding and one small shallow loss from the side of the top rim of the cup. An exceptionally fine and rare collector's piece.
