Ghazny Chondzoresk, Afghanistan, 225 x 172 cm
These pieces of contemporary production are made in Pakistan by weavers of Afghan origin, presenting in their designs the motifs of the most famous pieces of the Caucasian production of the past centuries. The main element that distinguishes them is the choice of materials used for the weaving. These are Ghazny wools threaded and tinted by artisans according to traditional methods and using dyes of natural origin. This gives the carpet a special patina and a non-uniform colouration which becomes another, very important decorative element. This carpet in particular is reminiscent of the Chondzoresk motif, with three "cloud" medallions probably born from the stylising of the antique dragon motif.
