Extra information:
When Nagapattinam no longer fell under Ceylon in 1680, the Ceylon government issued charters in July 1682 and October 1683 that barred the import of copper money from the coast of India. However, the earlier abundant minting of unwanted copper money flowed back into the Company's funds at Ceylon, up to an amount of 200,300 guilders at that time. The governing board of the Company, the 'Heeren XVII', took this matter very seriously and the writ of 14 July 1695 'decreed Nagapattinam to mint up 100,000 guilders in double and single stuivers as well as duiten, at the price of the copper in its surrounding markets'. As a result of this instruction from 1695, copper 2 and 1 stuivers (approx. 27.3 g), duiten and ½ duiten were minted.
