Its designer, Richard, Sapper was born in 1932 in Monaco. He started working in the Mercedes Benz project office and in 1958 he transferred to Milan where he worked first with Gio Ponti and for Rinascente and then entered Marco Zanuso's studio, with which he designed many famous objects among which radios and the Brionvega televisions, the Grillo telephone and the Kartell children's chairs. He has lived and worked in Italy since the 1950s and is therefore considered an integral part of the history of Italian design. He has been awarded 10 Gold Compasses. His main interest is the design of technically complex objects, from boats to watches.
Alessi, born in 1921 as a 'Workshop for the manufacture of sheets of brass and nickel silver with casting', Alessi has always been recognised for the high quality of its products.
In almost a century of history it has evolved to become an avant-garde exponent of the ‘Italian Design Factories’ capable of applying the knowledge and excellence achieved in design management to other types of product with notable differences between them.
Open to change and international development, the company is at the same time deeply rooted in the tradition and cultural background of its territory. Alessi is still synonymous with handicraft objects made with the help of machines.
