The fossil meteorite!!!! 152 g piece and 3.5 g slice
Initially, in 2005, this type of material was classified as AUBRITE, likely paired NWA 2828. After several studies, it was reclassified as AL HAGGOUNIA 001 enstatite chondrite.
Aubrites are mainly composed of orthopyroxene enstatite, and are often called enstatite achondrites.
Paired with: NWA002, NWA1067, NWA2736, NWA2965.
Their igneous origin differentiates them from the primitive achondrites of enstatites and it means that they originated from an asteroid.
Aubrites have typically a light colour and a brown fusion crust.
Most aubrites are heavily brecciated.
Aubrites are mainly composed of large white orthopyroxene crystals rich in Mg or enstatite.
Around this matrix, they feature minor phases of olivine, nickel-iron metal and troilite, denoting a magmatic formation under extremely reducing conditions.
The great brecciation of most aubrites gives evidence of a violent history in their parent body.
Comparisons of aubrite spectra to the spectra of asteroids have revealed striking similarities between the aubrite group and the E-type asteroids of the Nysa family.
