Marlin 1881 in excellent condition. Some screws and the lever latch are not original. Barrel has beautiful features and fields. Barrel has 95 percent blueing, the remaining metal gray-brown patina. Front wood without cracks, which is usually not the case with this model. The butt has some unobtrusive perfectly repaired cracks. Connecting of butt and front wood to metal parts is very good. This weapon has no test bench marks. (American weapons were usually tipsy in the factory, and not marked as such). The calibre 32-40 Winchester (Ballard) was introduced in 1884, so as a black powder pattern. The model 1881 was manufactured from 1881 to 1892. In the Netherlands, all Marlins are exempt from the 1881 model according to Art. 18 RWM.
