Antique Russian icon ‘Four selected saints’ with mandyluon from the 19th century approx. 1850. Hand-painted with egg tempera colour on a wooden panel with chalk background. Typical method of icon production in 18th and 19th century in tsarist Russia. This is a typical commissioned icon. Saints with name inscriptions. The inscriptions are only clearly legible partially. Among the saints are Sergei of Radonezh, St. Ulita and Kirik...?
Relatively detailed painting. Perfectly matched colour contrasts. The icon has a rather "clear" effect on the viewer and at the same time is inspiring for the viewer. The painting has craquelure. Partial restorations are present. The icon is in good condition with typical age-related traces of wear (see photos). Rather rare motif. Possibly a single piece in this version. Two wooden laths are attached on the top and bottom ends of of the back.
A piece for every collector and enthusiast of antique Russian icon painting.
All details are clearly visible in the photos. The photos are an integral part of the description.
