Thomas Dalziel 1823-1906
Thomas Bolton Gilchrist Septimus Dalziel (1823–1906) was an engraver known chiefly for his illustrations of the work of Charles Dickens.
Thomas Dalziel produced many illustrations for books published by the family firm, the Brothers Dalziel. Many of his designs are considered by Philip Allingham (Faculty of Education, Lakehead University, Thunder Bay, Ontario) to be workmanlike rather than anything more inspired, although he considers Thomas Dalziel's illustrations for Bunyan's Pilgrim's Progress and The Arabian Nights to be above average.
Selling here is an incredibly rare and unique original manuscript by the renowned Thomas Dalziel. The manuscript features thirty eight stunning watercolours by Dalziel, and with each page having a manuscript leaf of poetry telling a story of grieving a death - possibly Dalziel's daughter. This is a truly unique work, ideal for a collector.
Contained in card wraps. The leaves are individual with chord markings to inner margins. The condition internally, is superb. A few marks or the odd brown spot, but in very good condition. See images for description.
