Antique painting, oil on canvas, XVII century, depicting the ecstasy of St. Francis.
This evocative canvas can be traced back to a Flemish artist of Caravaggioesque scope. The execution shows a refined quality, enlivened by a craquelure on which the typical texture of the canvases used in Rome and Naples emerges, as well as the drawing system and the pigments, developing a painting with evident Italian influences where the chiaroscuro manifests an intense contrast.
With a beautiful lacquered frame, which shows slight flaws and defects.
In overall fairly good condition, considering its age. There are some scattered restorations and some peeling of the surface, but nothing truly relevant. There are no conservation problems. The original canvas is in good condition and has not been relined. It looks like the stretcher was replaced in the past. Fine craquelure compatible with age.
Canvas size: 80.5 x 64 cm. Frame size: 90 x 74 cm.
