Jizai-kagi (kettle hook) made from a single block of Zelkova wood, with the upper part in the shape of a roof and the lower part in a "hook" shape.
The jizai, part of every traditional Japanese home, is a solid wood architectural element, which was hung from a ceiling beam to support a kettle suspended above the sunken hearth. On the hanger hung an adjustable hook that held the kettle.
Today this traditional sculpture is a piece of furniture.
This type is called Daikoku, with a hat shape reminiscent of Daikoku, one of the seven sages of good luck.
The modern stand is included in the lot.

Meiji-Taisho period from the early 19th century.
