Netsuke - Ivoire d’éléphant - Unusual and Rare - Shoki with an oni on the hat - Japon - Période Meiji (1868–1912)
Très bon état, voir la description - 7×3.5×2 cm

Ivory netsuke depicting Shoki with an oni on his hat. Amongst the most classic subjects for a netsuke. In this case Shoki is depicted with Dutch clothing, along with the Portuguese they were one of the first to enter Japan in the 16th century and non exactly welcomed.

There is a mix of irony and history in this netsuke. It references the legend where oni is always captured by Skoki, who chases him all over the place with his sword. But in this case he doesn't seem to notice that he is actually sitting on top of his hat, which is a clear reference to the stupidity of the invading people.

Very good condition.
