Carlo Nason - Mazzega - Lustre (1) - Torpedo
Carlo Nason was born in Murano in 1935, to one of the oldest glassmakers families on the island. He grew up hanging out with the master glassmakers who worked in the family furnace and immediately started investigating the potential of glass, a material imbued with history and memories.
He soon mastered the most refined glassmaking techniques and, demonstrating an attitude for innovative design, used those to give life to a skilful combination of technique and high craftsmanship, tradition and innovation.
The “Torpedo” chandelier was designed between 1965 and 1980, at the time Nason collaborated with Mazzega glassware of Murano. All the lamp holders are in excellent condition; the 50-years-old frame shows the inevitable signs of ageing, which add up to its beauty. Overall, this piece has not only very well endured ageing and is suitable to the modern design standards, but it has also gained notoriety through famous films and Italian design history books.
Nason's works have been exhibited in numerous museums and art/design galleries in Paris, Milan and New York.
