This famous illustration was published no less than 32 times in 1946 and 1947 in Tintin/Kuifje magazine, in all kinds of formats and colours (see photos for a few examples).
The illustration itself may have been made earlier. L'étoile mysterieuse (The Shooting Star), the story featuring Major Wings, was published in Le Soir starting in October 1941.
Original art in Indian ink and washed ink, in a beautiful black wooden frame.
The work is signed with the letter H (Signé dans le dessin), which Hergé often did at the time.
Before Hergé decided to add the text “Major Wings” in the illustration, he first used the name “Major Ajwing”. He later changed his mind and pasted the lettering “Major Wings” over the other name. All texts are handmade. No copies.
The pencil lines are still visible in the illustration.
In short, a historical work of this greatest classic of the world of comics. A museum piece, which has already been exhibited at the BRAFA (Brussels art fair).
A certificate of authenticity, made in 2016 by Fondation Hergé, is included with the work.
This work can be picked up in Maastricht, as long as the measures against Corona allow this. Excess paid shipping costs (insured via UPS) will be refunded to the buyer.
