The sails are embossed parchment and lined with a black fabric on the inside.
After many years, the parchment has become dehydrated and cracked, please see the photos.
There are 2 red crosses and images of ships in colour on the upper sails..
A galleon is an historic sailing vessel from the late 16th century and the 17th century. The word galleon is still most commonly used for the Spanish galleons that transported gold and silver to Spain from the New World, but in fact most of the 17th-century large ships of this type were also the Dutch, such as the Leeuwin (Lioness) and the Mauritius or the English Golden Hind.
A galleon has a high and curved fore-castle, with a low, narrow and protruding bow.
