Work is in perfect condition and is a very powerful piece.

Antoon Kruysen has experienced a lot of recognition throughout his working life as a painter. Famous museums, such as the Jeux de Paumes in Paris, bought his work. The museum in Chartres also has a lot of his work. Antoon Kruysen was an impulsive and temperamental person and this can be seen in his paintings. He painted directly and quickly, used a lot of colours and thus sometimes gives the impression of it not being finished. That is an intended effect, because he could be very precise. His way of painting is described in France as 'peinture barbare'. Antoon Kruysen's direct painting manner often focused on the sad and ridiculous aspects of life and society. Gypsies, wanderers, clowns and drunks were often featured. Topics such as funerals and caravan people also attracted his attention.
