Sciuko 2000 lamp designed by Achille Castiglioni for Flos in perfect condition and working
The Brothers Livio (1911-1979), Pier Giacomo (1913-1968), and Achille (1918-2002) Castiglioni were born in Milan and worked together as industrial designers and architects
In 1938, shortly after graduating from the Politecnico di Milano, Pier Giacomo, along with his brother Livio, established a small architectural firm in Milan. They collaborated with the architect Luigi Caccia Dominioni and designed interiors, decor items, and more, such as the Caccia Cutlery Set (1938) and the Fimi-Phonola 547 Radio (1939). In 1944, after graduating in architecture from the Politecnico di Milano, Achille joined his older brothers’ company. In the early years, the profits for Castiglioni firm came mostly from design exhibitions, but also from the restoration of buildings destroyed by the war, such as the Palazzo della Permanente in 1952. The same year, Livio left the brothers’ firm and founded his own, famous today above all for Boalum Lamp for Artemide (1970-1971), a lamp created from a flexible plastic tube with an internal light, designed with Gianfranco Frattini (1926-2004).
