Nice large work by:
Albertus Verhoesen (1806-1881).
1806 – Utrecht – 1881
The animal painter Albertus Verhoesen was born in Utrecht in 1806. He was apprenticed to the Utrecht painter Bruno van Straaten. Later, he received painting lessons from landscape painter Jan van Ravenswaay and from the cattle painter Pieter Gerardus van Os. Except in his hometown, Verhoesen worked temporarily in the painting colony of Hilversum. He lived there from 1824 to 1826, together with the famous artist Barend Cornelis Koekkoek. Verhoesen then moved to Amersfoort, where he worked for almost twenty years as city artist (director of the local drawing school). In 1853, he returned to Utrecht, where he died in 1881. In addition to paintings, Verhoesen also produced some etchings and lithographs. He was teacher of his son Johannes Marinus Verhoesen and of Dirk van Lokhorst.
