Original tanzaku woodblock print - Published by Hasegawa - Shoda Koho 庄田耕峯 (1871-1946) - Egret in the Rain - Japan - 1930s
A beautiful image of an egret in the rain sitting on the branch of a pine tree. The image is from the series Japanese scenes in Tanzaku. It is from the 1930’s and the publisher is Hasegawa/Nishi Momiya. There are two red seals. There is a slight discolouration to left of egrets beak in sky but not noticeable. Slight scratch to base of tree but also not apparent. The print is in a white paper pass partout and the image is glued to this 2cms top left margin and 1 cm bottom left margin which would be easy to detach by a restorer or could be left. Overall a delightful image of wild life in the beautiful Japanese countryside.
