Original etching, made by Paul Cézanne (1839 - 1906), signed in the etching plate, the signature is in the top left corner.
Cézanne etched this portrait of his friend the painter Armand Guillaumin when they both stayed with their friend Dr. Gachet in Auvers-sur-Oise in 1873. Exactly 147 years ago. Cézanne had the curious nickname 'Le pendu', the hanged man. He used the symbol of the hanged man as a signature on a number of drawings in that year, this followed the mysterious death of a man in Auvers.
This image was first printed in 1873. This copy was probably from the 1906. Done in brown/black ink. Dimensions mat 50 x 32.5 cm, dimensions paper 24.8 x 16.5 cm, dimensions plate 15.6 x 11.5 cm. Condition: in good condition, see pictures.
