Manuscript - Page from a Dutch Book of Hours - ca.1450 - 1450

This 15th-century manuscript leaf is from a prayer book that was written in Dutch c. 1450.

Imagine the mediaeval abbeys with their libraries where monks created beautiful manuscripts, illuminated with gilt-heightened and hand-painted initials on red or blue backgrounds. Time was not an issue, contemplation and quality all the more so.

This is such a manuscript on vellum (thin parchment - animal skin) with beautifully written letters and with small decorations in the initials. This is an original unique piece from the 15th century.

Condition: Although more than 500 years old, the manuscript is still in good condition; the vellum is slightly tanned. Elements that determine the value: its rarity, quality, age and attractiveness. This is a masterpiece in any serious collection.
