This map is an original 1696 “double engraving on copper”.
This Double Map comes from the rare work/Atlas, "Atlas Nouveau..... published in Paris in 1696, by one of the greatest and most innovative French cartographers of the 17th century, Alexis Hubert JAILLOT, successor of N. SANSON.
The map is inserted in an elegant passe-partout and has a remarkably large size, 115x80 cm (including margins)
The dimensions of the 2 joined maps are approximately 68 x 98 cm
The single map dimensions are approximately 68 x 49 cm
The measurements of the double map inserted in the passe-partout are approximately 115 x 80 cm
The map is quite intact, with light coeval colouring.
This map, as previously mentioned, consists of 2 large joined sheets forming the entire area of Italy and its islands.
Both sheets are glued on a single thicker sheet, just to make the map perfectly clean, without folds or corrugation. I can confirm that the map is smooth and perfect, ready to be inserted into the passe-partout.
All in all, this map is quite rare, uncommon and very beautiful, as shown in pictures.
