The eastern paradise whydah (Vidua paradisaea), also known as the long-tailed paradise whydah is a bird species from the family of whydahs. During mating season, this species shows a conspicuous sex dimorphism.
The females of the eastern paradise whydah reach a length of 13 centimetres. The males are slightly larger and measure up to 15 centimetres in the eclipse plumage. In the nuptial plumage, when the males have built their long tail, they measure up to 26 centimetres.

In the nuptial plumage, males have a wide, golden yellow neck band. The chest is a light maroon. On the abdomen, the breast colouration passes into a bright yellow. Beak, head, throat, back, wings and wing covers are black. The long tail and its covers are also black. In the eclipse plumage, the males resemble sparrow-like coloured females.
