Josephus Alphonus 'Jo' Schrijnder (Druten 1894 - Amstelveen 1968).
Versatile visual artist and mayor: that is how Jo Schrijnder's career can be briefly summarized. From 1924 until 1946, he was mayor of West Frisian Grootebroek. As an artist, he designed the town hall there; there are symbolic wall decorations, ornaments, stained glass windows and furniture from his hand. Schrijnder was a painter, sculptor, glass artist and monumental artist. He also created illustrations for books and magazines, and designed book bands. As a painter, Jo Schrijnder preferred hunting scenes; he also painted portraits, still lifes and landscapes in impressionist style.
