Atlante Nautico
The codex of Battista Agnese, from the 16th century (Banco Rari 32), is kept at the Biblioteca Nazionale Centrale in Florence (facsimile and commentary edition 2008).
Description:
from the collection of the scholar and bibliophile Antonio Magliabechi (1633-1714), the codex came out of the workshop of the cartographer Battista Agnese, who worked in Venice between 1536/7 and 1564, and is a highly innovative product from a geographical and cartographic point of view. Its iconographic characteristics, both in the nautical charts and in the astronomical and geographical tables, testify to the quality of the work, undoubtedly intended for a wealthy and demanding public, eager to be updated on the latest discoveries.
