Replica of a Draisine wooden balance bike, invented in 1817 by Karl Freiherr von Drais.
Although balance bikes had been around for a long time, the Draisine was the first with a steering mechanism. One could only move straight forward with older balance bikes.
The bike is made of wood and iron. The wheels are made of wood with an iron ring around it like a cart wheel.
Length is about 2 metres.
The year of manufacture is unfortunately unknown.
Collection in Smilde, the Netherlands.
