A polychrome shunga painting after a print from the famous series ‘Nami chidori’ (Plovers above waves), also known as ‘Fukujuso’ (Adonis plant). Prints from this series are designed by Katsushika Hokusai (1760-1849) and originally published around 1817 and 1820s (details and illustrations of the prints frequently appear in specialist literature).
This fine painting on thin paper dates from the Meiji Period (1868-1912).
Artist’s or collector's seal at bottom right: Kamiyoshi
Format: Large oban, 27.9 x 40 cm.
Condition: Very good, minor creases on the vertical margins. Excellent colours.
