A Fabulous original production drawing for the 1935 animated short 'Mickey on Ice'.
It is extremely rare to find production drawings from this very early Disney animation, and this is sure to remain a collector item giving an insight into the beginnings of what has become a huge animation industry.
The wonderful pencil lines still show the fainter construction lines, and the page bears the animator's or producer/ director's s annotations. This gives us a rare glimpse into how to construct a fantastic Mickey Mouse! The sequence for which this drawing was used shows Mickey skating upside down on a tree (see screenshot image, not included in the lot) hence the numbering on the drawing being 'upside down'.
Very often production drawings show only a portion of the action, or the subject is very small, this however is a well laid out large drawing with a central figure. A very fine example indeed.
Mickey 'On Ice' was released on 28th September 1935, Produced by Walt Disney and directed by Ben Sharpsteen.
The drawing is framed in an embellished double mount and neat black frame. The reverse of the frame has a signed certificate of authenticity attached from Gallery Lainzberg from 1986.
External frame size 415mm x 388mm
There is a very slight fade to the top left corner, concurrent with the age of the piece.
