The porcelain of Capodimonte owes its name to the hilly area of Capodimonte, in Naples, where, in the mid-eighteenth century, King Charles of Bourbon and his wife Maria Amalia of Saxony founded the Royal Factory of Capodimonte. Besides being kept in the Museum of Capodimonte, a considerable number of porcelains produced by this famous factory are also preserved in the Duca di Martina Museum, in the Villa Floridiana, in the Museo Filangieri and in the Diego Aragona Pignatelli Museum.
