Bread boiler, late 18th Century, Nuremberg/Franken, copper handmade, inside tinned.
Conical body on a stand. Two eyelets are riveted on the side with movable brass ring handles. Curved, hinge-bearing lid, curved ball motif driven in the centre.

Dimensions: Height: 30 cm
Upper diameter: 34 cm
Diameter bottom: 26 cm

Condition: beautiful old-age patina, age-appropriate
Signs of wear


Type of manufacture: Copper, chased and pressed, inside
tinned, brass parts solid, cast.

History: From the 17th to the end of the 19th century,
loaves of bread were hygienically stored
in copper bread kettles.
Copper has a permanent antibacterial effect and
protects against fungal infestation and rotting bacteria.
For this reason, even today,
water pipes are made of copper.
To protect the bread from copper patina,
the bread kettle was tinned inside.
