Description
Willem Horselenberg (1881-1961) - De Nieuwe Maas vanaf de Müllerpier, met H.A.L hoofdkantoor
Huile sur toile - Signé à la main - ca. 1924

This large river or harbour view is one of the top pieces by Wouterus Lourens (Willem) Horselenberg (Rotterdam 29 January 1881 - Zeist 3 July 1961), the painter who captured Rotterdam and its surroundings in many facets.
For this painting, he positioned himself on the western head of the Parkhaven (now Müllerhoofd) with the two dolphins; from left to right, we see two cargo ships on the Parkkade, then on the other side, the headquarters of the Holland America Line with the two characteristic towers (now Hotel New York), then the Rhine port with a cargo ship, then in the middle of the river, a cargo ship with a few lighters alongside, and then the two loaded sail boats as eye-catchers. It was a day, allowing Willem to play nicely with the light. Most of the scene is covered by the clouds, but the ship in the Rhine port and the ship in the middle of the river are in the sun.

The painting is generally in good condition; here and there some craquelure, and top right shows a little restoration. The tight grey/beige frame matches perfectly.

Because of its size, the painting needs to be picked up in Rhoon. It can also be delivered at fuel costs (consumption 1:15) up to approx. 100 km. from Rhoon.
