The Belgian painter Felix de Baerdemaecker (Leuven 1836 - Ghent 1878) was an excellent 19th century artist.
He was educated at the royal academy of fine arts in Antwerp. His talent stands out in the category of landscapes and animals.
He died young and maybe that is why so few pieces by this artist are known. He remained faithful to his love of landscapes. He preferred the Ardennes with the rainy weather. Nevertheless, he was often seen in Flemish villages.
This painting shows a sunny day. The farm and the yard are in the shade. Chickens are scurrying around freely. The hay appears to have just been unloaded from the cart. The farm and his wife are taking a little break. They even appear to be posing for the painter. In the background, we can see a tower. Maybe a small castle?
The painting and frame are in good condition.
