Rare and very big heteromorphic ammonites Spiny Crioceratites majoricensis, mortality plate from the Upper Hauterivian, Balearic area.
In this rare cluster two amazing ammonites are well preserved.
The specimens are thick and not smashed.
It is not a composite, specimens are original on matrix.
This museum quality Crioceratites specimen was discovered and prepared by a renowned fossil preparator and collector. It took many painstaking days to expose the three-dimensional form of the fossil from the matrix.
Please note that spines rarely fossilise, they are incredibly difficult to prepare and some likely wore off during the ammonite lifetime.
In this specimen, spines have been reconstructed when the specimen has been prepared, to show how it might have appeared in life.
Restoration notes: 100% of the spines are reconstructed and glued into their original anatomical position.
Biggest ammonite is 12 cm wide from spine to spine.
Smallest ammonite is 7.5 cm.
Notes some repairs and cracks are present as normal, as the stone is quite fragile. This is not made in a factory!
It looks great from every angle and would be an amazing display in a home, office or museum.
