A Regency rosewood sarcophagus tea caddy with hinged top and bun feet. The caddy is beautifully decorated with gadrooned borders, mother-of-pearl inlays with a deer, birds and floral motifs.
Interior with two rectangular lidded compartments and a central compartment holding a glass mixing bowl. The original lock is present, but no key.
During this period, tea was an expensive commodity, and was stored in a locked box to keep away from the household staff.
In good used condition, some loss to the mother-of-pearl inlays and dry cracks consistent with age and use. See images for own impression.
