A wonderful late 19th century, beginning 20th century oil painting by Belgian artist Henry Schouten (1864-1927). The scene depicts a group of hens and cockerels.
The scene is particularly lively and the painter gives it a lot of dynamism. The natural colours compliment the realistic image and soft brushstrokes of Schouten’s work.
A very charming piece !
Signed lower right “Henry Schouten”.
The painting is in good condition and has been recently cleaned with a new layer of varnish. Some marks of restoration, some patch of restoration at the back (see pictures).
It's ready to hang and enjoy !
The painting and the frame will be well protected for shipping. I never had any problem but please be aware that such an old frame is fragile.
Dimension of canvas is 61.5cm x40.5cm (image visible through frame is 38.5cmx58cm).
Schouten is best known as a painter for his beautiful landscapes, which mostly featured animals and shepherds (pastoral landscapes). He participated in several gallery and museum exhibitions, including at The John Davies Gallery, Morten-in-Marsh, United Kingdom. In 1882, Schouten exhibited with the Union of Arts (l’union des arts) in Brussels.
