From the collection of Museum Sacrum, items from the rich Roman life, collected by the sacristan.
Beautiful, substantial statue of Jesus as a child, known for "Van Jesus en St, Janneke, die speelden met een lammeke" by father Adriaen Poirters (1605-1674).
Elizabeth, mother of St. Janneke (a.k.a. John the Baptist) was the aunt of Mary, mother of Jesus.
John and Jesus were born in the same year and are described in an old Dutch folk song.
This statue shows beautiful details, including a waterfall, rose bush, two pigeons and a literal reference to the crown of thorns.
The statue has some spots (see pictures) but as a whole it is very impressive!
