Eugène Ionesco (Slatina (Romania), 26 November 1909 – Paris, 28 March 1994) was an influential French playwright, born in Romania. He is regarded as one of the most important representatives of the absurd scene , but was also active as a visual artist.
In 1970 he was appointed a member of the Académie française. Ionesco wrote one novel later in life, Le Solitaire (1973). He also painted.
