Eemans was a Belgian painter, poet and art critic, early pioneer of constructivist abstraction before becoming interested in surrealism around 1925, during which he exhibited with René Magritte and Salvador Dalí. He moved away from the constructivist abstraction in the 30s (like many), preferring a certain symbolic mysticism to the Dadaist mockery articulating this movement.
