More information about Speedy Graphito:
Speedy Graphito is one of the pioneering artist of French Street Art (contemporary urban art). He is now internationally famous as one of the major artists of his generation. Since the early 80s, just after the free-figuration movement, the collective memory and walls of Paris were permeated with the colouring and snappy graphics of Speedy Graphito’s ‘Style Graphito’.
SG is an Art creator, Prolific and inventive, SG uses all media (painting, sculpture, installation, photo or video) to create a universal language that transcends his work and time. Developed in themes, exhibitions follow one another always unveiling new and surprising universes. Continuously evolving and reinventing himself, his trademark is a deep and joyful art in often vivid colours, that shakes our perceptions in a playful and ironic way. He does not hesitate to appropriate and divert popular culture imagery, super heroes, and even brands, towards a nearly systematic decryption of our collective subconscious. He then declines the many standards and dictates of our Western cultural identity into as many questions, superimposing a more poetic dimension to the reality of our society. Speedy Graphito comes from the same artistic movement as Banksy, Futura2000, Rammellzee, Space Invader, Kaws, Andy Warhol, Keith Haring, Yves Klein, Takashi Murakami, Obey, Shepard Fairey (Obey), Ben Eine, Pure Evil, Ludo, Rero, C215, Jef Aérosol, JR, Swoon, Orlinksi, Speedy Graphito, Vhils, Ming, Ferrari, Rolex, Piguet, Ernest Pignon Ernest, Picasso, Atari, Panier, Hirst, Koons, Vu, D Face, Ron, Murakami, Shrigley, Polock, Koons, Dubuffet, Matisse, Delaunay, Buffet, Kapoor, Wesselmann, Dine, Hockney, Kapoor, et Os Gemeos. While SG uses a precise personal imagery dictionary, tangibly connected to Art History, he is often more than inclined to provide its keys. Everyone can find their own desires, a good reason to continue a more personal quest. The themes of childhood and death, always present, give the works a more autobiographical character, inspired by his wanderings and experiences. Today Speedy Graphito is a world-renowned artist, these works are sold in the biggest auction houses alongside the greatest artists of urban art such as Seth, Basquiat, Miss-Tic , Mr Chat, JonOne, Zevs, Dran, Zao Wou Ki, Klimt, Stik, Soulages, Mathieu, Mr Brainwash, Kaws, Roa, Blu, Dolk, Toy, Bearbrick, Ai Weiwei, Dali, Hartung, Francis, Roy Lichtenstein, Haring, Combas, Warhol, Mesnager, Levalet, Blek Le Rat and Brusk. All his artworks are an invitation to travel and enlightenment. His work, as a whole, is that of an intermediary, marked with the dreamlike imprint of a true iconoclast. Equally conformable in pictorial public performances as in the privacy of his studio, SG gives body and soul to his passion. In the urgency of passing time, it is a ‘Survival mode’. SG is a popular artist. It is the poster commissioned by the Ministry of Culture for ‘La Ruée vers l’Art’ in 1985 that immediately gives him broad recognition and the attention of a wide public. Since then the animation of the Défense towers for the concert of JM Jarre, the graphic outside of the Halle Saint Pierre, the logo for space mission Altaïr that is still floating somewhere in intergalactic space, the painting of the Europodyssée boat that sailed on canals from Moscow to Paris, the sails of a catamaran for a solo crossing of the Atlantic, and walls of Paris along the Bièvre Parcours have followed. His was only 14 years-old when he felt the calling of Art. He was taught at distance at Ecole de la “Rue Madame” 1975-1980 which enables him to spend his free time to paint, and create in parallel theatre decorations for five years. - [ ] Speedy Graphito inspiring a lot of brand as Timberland, Off White, Jordan, Fear of God, Versace, Boss, Moncler, Arman, Ralph Lauren, Lacoste, Supreme, Bape, Champion, Comme des Garçons, Dover Street Market, Superdry, Carhartt, Kenzo, Yeezy, Givenchy, Jimmy Choo, Rick Owens, Kenzo, Louboutin, Chanel, Saint-Laurent, Zanotti, Valentino Fendi, Margiela, Piaget, Tiffany & Co, Dinh Van, Mikimoto, Gucci, Hermès, Mauboussin, Damiani et Boucheron, Nike, Puma, Reebok, Vans, Converse, Under Armour, New Balance, Asics, Skechers, Forever 21, Fila, Mizuno, Balenciaga, Bulgari, Yeezy, Balmain, Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels, Buccellati, Stone Island, Vetement, & Philippe Plein.
