He was born in Sabadell on the 6th of December 1879 1895
Faithful and enthusiastic disciple of his great master, Joan Vila Cinca, with whom he engaged a close friendship that he maintained throughout the years. In 1932, Planas Doria created the organizing committee of a tribute that was dedicated to this great artist.
He studied at the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando in Madrid.
He studied at the Escola de Belles Arts de Sant Jordi (Llotja) in Barcelona, with the masters Josep Calvó and Antoni Caba.
He completed his studies in Paris and Brussels.
He married Assumpció Viloca Puig, daughter of Pere Viloca Comadran, manufacturer of spinnings and major of Sabadell on two occasions.
As a result of his marriage, two daughters were born: María Rosa, married to Estanislau Obach Soler and María Josefa, married to Francesc Rognoni Franzi, who gave him five grandchildren: Víctor y Roser Obach Planas and Josep-Lluís, Glòria and Jaume Rognoni Planas.
He moved to Barcelona. He combined the active practice of painting with the family business.
He held his first exhibition in the Saló Serra of Barcelona. He shared the exhibition room with Josep Bonet del Río.
First solo exhibition in the Sala Parés, in Barcelona.
He promoted and carried out the exhibition “Paisatge del Vallès’ inaugurated in the Acadèmia de Belles Arts of Sabadell and which travelled through Terrassa, Granollers, Caldes de Montbui, Sant Celoni...
He took part in the contest “Barcelona vista por sus artistas”, where he obtained two prizes. One of them was the canvas entitled “Vía Laietana 1930”, which represents what until then was the headquarters of the “Caixa de Pensions”.
He abandoned all his activities in the business world in order to exclusively devote himself to painting. He started a series of trips that took him to Madrid, Bilbao, London, La Coruña, etc. Cities where he exhibited his works with great success of critic and sales. This was his life until almost his last days.
Honorific award at the Salón de Otoño in Madrid. He was designated honorary member of the Sociedad de pintores y escultores de Madrid.
He was appointed president of the Reial Cercle Artístic of Barcelona.
He was appointed Vice-president of the Agrupació d’aquarel·listes de Catalunya.
On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of his first exhibition, a great tribute ceremony was held on his honour in Barcelona, with a great media resonance.
Tribute exhibition in the Academia de Belles Arts of Sabadell.
The Sabadell City Council awarded him with the Silver Medal of the City.
He died in Barcelona on the 29th of December 1955, at the age of 76.
