Romeyn de Hooghe (1645-1708)
Painter, engraver and sculptor of Amsterdam, nephew of Pieter de Hooch. He worked in Paris with Van der Meulen and enjoyed great success. He received his patent of nobility from the King of Polen in 1675. In 1687 he returned to Haarlem where he stayed the rest of his life. He is most known for his graphic work. He istood for a renewal of print art and rejected the somewhat dull French style from the period.
This beautiful etching was published in Amsterdam by Jacob Lindenberg in 1703. as part of a bible print series from the old and New Testament.
