Beautiful oil on canvas (mounted on panel) painting "Winterse namiddag bij Blaricum”, painted in 1924 by the famous Dutch Art Deco painter Dirk Smorenberg (1883-1960).
Signed and dated in the lower right.
The artist Dirk Smorenberg was born in Alkmaar in 1883. He was in the military until 1906 and after that developed into a painter and is considered to be one of the few Art Deco painters of The Netherlands. He got advice from August Allebe. Initially he lived and worked in Alkmaar and Bergen and after wandering through Europe (IJmuiden, Groningen, Montreux, Renkum, England, Switzerland, Amsterdam) and the USA (New York), he settled in 1924 in Oud-Loosdrecht, where he passed away in 1960. He drew, made watercolours and painted people, flowers and especially decorative landscapes, reeds and water lilies in various styles. He got his inspiration from the landscapes in the province of Noord-Holland. Smorenberg was an independent and original painter. For some of his works he designed a matching frame. Morenberg was mainly known for his depictions of the lakes around Loosdrecht. Due to their shallow depth and the beautiful stylisation of the nature depicted, these are counted as New Art, the Dutch variant of the Art Nouveau.
