Walther Wenck - General der Panzertruppe van Dermot Bradley.
Wenck took command on 15 February 1945 of what would become one of the last, big German tank offensives during the war, ‘Unternehmen Sonnenwende’ at the eastern front. An estimated 1,200 tanks attacked the Russian positions. The operation was badly prepared and was characterised by many logistical problems and had insufficient supplies. It ended with a Soviet victory on 18 February 1945.
As general of one of the last remaining panzer troops, Wenck was instructed on 10 April 1945 to defend the south-west of Berlin with the 12th Panzer army. By partly ignoring orders by Hitler, he ensured that more than 250,000 refugees could reach the West.
Walther Wenck died in a car accident in 1982.
Publication by Biblio Verlag Osnabrück 1981.
Wonderful hardcover with dust jacket. The dust jacket has some signs of use, though the book itself is as good as new.
